Richard T. Vacca
Professor emeritus from Kent State University and Past President of International Reading Association
Richard T. Vacca is a professor emeritus from Kent
State University. He currently works with school
districts and universities throughout the United States
on issues related to adolescent literacy and learning.
Widely known in reading studies around the world,
Richard has written solely or in partnership some of
the most important and long-lived textbooks for the
teaching of reading, including Content Area
Reading: Literacy and Learning Across the Curriculum (now in its eighth
edition), Reading and Learning to Read (seventh edition), and Elements
of Language (first through sixth courses). Rich was a member of the Board
of Directors of the College Reading Association and the International
Reading Association, and served as the 42nd President of the
International Reading Association (IRA) in 1996-97.
